Go see Wanted right fucking now.

Friday, June 27th, 2008

The utter badass-ness of Wanted merits gratuitous swearing. Seriously.

Although I have to admit that at the beginning, I was annoyed at Wesley’s sheer patheticness, things picked up very quickly. It’s impossible to hate a movie where the underdog becomes “the man”, especially if it’s in a way that doesn’t include cheesily heartwaming music.

Wanted tells the story of a group of assassins and a cubicle worker named Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy ). Wesley Gibson leads a terribly pathetic existence. He puts up with his overweight, bully of a boss who makes his life miserable, and his girlfriend and best friend, who are sleeping with each other. He is picked up one day by Fox (Angelina Jolie ) - who is sexy as hell and quite capable of kicking ass, much like Angelina is - who tells him that his father, who was the best assassin in the world, has been killed. Although Wesley is initially skeptical, he eventually returns to the assassins, who are led by Sloan (Morgan Freeman ). They brutally “train” him. I say “train” because I’m not quite sure how beating the life out of someone and slashing them to bits with knives in the goriest and most violent way possible is training, but whatever, I couldn’t care less because these people ARE SO BADASS. After Wesley is successfully hardened to the pain, and after he can defy the laws of physics and curve a bullet, he is allowed to go on his way and avenge his father. And then copious amounts of ass-kicking and intense distorted facial expressions ensued, culminating in a huge mind-fuck, and a perfect ending.

The bottom line is, when you walk out of a movie theatre with a huge, goofy grin on your face, and the desire to turn around, sit back down, and watch the movie again,  and the need to call all of your friends immediately and recommend the movie to them, screaming, you know that movie was completely and totally AMAZING.

Rating: out of a possible 5 stars. This is the most amazing thing since the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So I tried a kinda new moview review style this time.. More summary and fewer pictures/less fluff. What do you prefer? This style of review? Or one of these?

Kung Fu Panda is SO GOOD!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

My boyfriend is asian.. And kind of on the slightly chubby side. (I’m fully authorized to say this, he says so himself!) And he’s actually quite fond of cute things, so a lot of people refer to him as panda. Thus, naturally, when we first saw previews for Kung Fu Panda many many months ago, we both knew that we’d have to see it. Well, actually, he was more excited for it than I was, because I was a bit turned off to Jack Black, and I thought it would just be silly. But I was SO pleasantly surprised!!

This movie was incredibly great. I can hardly get out words to describe it. I am a big fan of animated and cgi films, so when I say that this is possibly my favorite animated movie ever, you know that’s a big deal. Runner-ups are Finding Nemo and The Lion King, but really. Kung Fu Panda is simply SUPERB. It’s so funny! I don’t think there are words to describe how much I laughed. Humor that little kids will get, but older people won’t think is stupid. And yet, there are sad moments. Or well, I’m just way too emotional and I tear up whenever any character dies, even when it is just something animated and fuzzy. Also, I hate it when ANYTHING happens to the old/wise/lovely old man character. Which for some reason ALWAYS happens. Even in these fluffy little family films. It’s just not right!

Rating: I think you can say a movie is great when you cry tears of both laughter and sadness (shaddup, I’m really emotional). GO SEE IT NOW. NOW NOW NOW. IF YOU’VE ALREADY SEEN IT, GO SEE IT AGAIN.

Okay, on an entirely different subject than the incredibly awesome movie, I somehow fixed my computer. 8O I don’t know what’s going on. I can now use Google, Gmail, Facebook.. I think it may have been the many many zillion antivirus programs I installed, but I’m not sure because I never got any notification that they were fixed. Also, I still can’t do a system restore, so I don’t know if my computer really is fixed… I kinda feel like the virus is just taunting me. Giving me a taste of my lovely fixed computer, only to take it away from me overnight and leave it in shambles again and be like HA WHAT NOW. :(
