Paperclips

Monday, October 6th, 2008

I’ve started to organize my college apps by paper clips. I carelessly throw boring, small silver paperclips on the forms for the schools I’m not too fond of, but I carefully choose a bright colorful paperclip for my dream school. I also entertained the idea of making a paperclip necklace/bracelet for several minutes.

Instead of discussing the fact that I may be going crazy, I’ll share some pictures instead.

Aruba, how I miss thee

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I can hardly believe that only 8 days ago I was in Aruba. Basking in the sun. Snorkeling daily. Defining the time by how close it was to breakfast, lunch, or dinner. During my trip, I learned that there are few things funner than asking for “a virgin sex on the beach,” that I rather enjoy cocktails, that I really can not pull off cornrows, that being the only sober person among a crowd full of drunk people singing karaoke is probably one of the greatest experiences one can have, that being hit on by creepy-drunk-man-who-looks-like-my-mum-boss-and-has-cute-sons-in-their-twenties-who-all-get-drunk-together-as-a-family is a combination of amusing and awkward, that little blonde British children dance a lot like Elvis Presley and are insanely adorable, that when my grandmother loves a restaurant, she loves it enough to go there three nights in a row, and that peeling all over both arms, across your back, the part of your scalp that was exposed by cornrows, and your cheat makes you looked diseased… The list ends because there’s too many things and I’ve forgotten.

Here are some pictures accompagnied by my commentary. And by some pictures I mean so many I don’t know what to do with them - I took over 900, after all.

Wow, look at that pasty-ness. Please especially focus on the blinding whiteness of my scalp. I accidentally got cornrows the first day I was there; I thought the lady said hair-wrapping..

My sister and I saw a gigantic chess set and immediately saw the need to recreate that scene from Harry Potter.

I limbo intensely…

..but not as intensely as this man..

The four hour horseback ride I took to the natural pool right around the corner of this picture under the VERY VERY intense Aruban sun is what totally totally burned me.

I bought a floppy straw hat and played some shuffledboard

I danced with the most adorable blonde British child, Alfie. I wanted to steal him.

I went parasailing.. And was upset because it didn’t go high enough.

If you look closely, you’ll be able to tell that I have my legs crossed. That’s how I roll.

I also went windsurfing…

…not always that lamely..

And then I got rescued when I went too far out. I kinda love how I look like a pompous bitch in this photo.

The beautiful sunset

It’s a little reminiscent of the Lion King, no?

My mother fails a bit at making hearts, but this is cute nonetheless!

And this is also ridiculously cute, for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on.

If you want to see even more photos, you can click here for the set on Flickr.

Bottom line is that I was very near depressed when I came back home, and I’ve been so busy for the past week that I’ve only just had the time to sort through the photos!

Happy Birthday Mommy!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Today was my mom’s 47th birthday. Although I have the photos I took today saved in a folder called “Mommy’s 23rd Birthday.” We didn’t do much special since she hates birthdays, apparently, and she doesn’t like spending money. So we had lunch at a cheap buffet and then we ate the cake that my sister and I made her!

It looks a little gross in that picture, but it was chockful of love so it tasted great.

Impromptu Playground Photoshoot

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I’ve been asking The Boyfriend to take me fishing for forever because there is something that seems so satisfying to be able to trick an innocent little fish into getting a hook stuck in its mouth all for the sake of a rubber worm. After about 10 minutes of fishing, though, I quickly realized that fishing is more boring waiting than exciting catching fish….. The Boyfriend and I quickly abandoned that endeavor in favor of running around on the playground. Or, well, I decided to run off and scamper about the slides while forcing him to take pictures of me. (On the way home, he grudgingly told me that “that was actually sorta fun”, but then when I started babbling excitedly he told me not to push it.)

The only good thing that came out of fishing.. A cool picture of a gigantic bait?

I’m a 5 year old

That thing was ridiculously hard to balance on.

Sadly, I’m fairly certain I make this face a lot. The gremlin look works well for me, eh?

My legs don’t look so stumpy here!

Back!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Singing at the top of one’s lungs to Disney songs/70s songs/songs from musicals, roasting marshmallows to ooey gooey golden perfection, lying on the road and having late night conversations about nothing, kayaking and/or being paddled around, having to wake up every hour during the night to find a position in which the gravel does not hurt too much, coming out of the shower feeling just as gross as you felt before going in… Camping was actually great fun! I’ll let the pictures do the talking (Or well, I’ll probably follow up with a couple stories tomorrow.. I’m exhausted for right now.)

The only things that were missing were several air mattresses and reception for my cell phone!
